Kim conducts a military display of new ICBMs and drones in North Korea.
State media
said on Friday that Kim Jong Un presided over a military showcase in Pyongyang
that featured new drones and nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic
missiles, flanked by visiting Russian and Chinese officials.
Images from the late-Thursday display in Pyongyang
showed at least four brand-new North Korean military drones being pulled on
trailers through Kim Il Sung Square while another drone appeared to fly
overhead.
Kim grinned and saluted as thousands of soldiers paraded past, followed by the nation's
most powerful intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), which are banned by
UN sanctions. He was standing in the VIP viewing stands between Chinese
Politburo member Li Hongzhong and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The
celebration was held to mark the 70th
anniversary of the Korean War
armistice, which put an end to hostilities and is remembered as Victory
Day. It featured Kim's first known foreign guests since the Covid-19 outbreak
began.
