Danish diplomat is summoned by Saudi Arabia to protest the Holy Quran's desecration
According to
state media early on Friday, Saudi Arabia summoned a Danish diplomat to protest
the burning of the Holy Quran in Copenhagen by an extreme-right organization.
Foreign ministry representatives delivered a
protest note to the Danish charge d'affaires on Thursday, asking for an end to
"these disgraceful acts, which violate all religious teachings (and)
international laws " and can "fuel hatred between
religions," according to the Saudi Press Agency.
On Monday,
the far-right organization Danske Patrioter published a video showing a man
burning and profaning what seems to be the Holy Quran.
A special
conference of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), based in Jeddah,
has been summoned by Saudi Arabia and Iraq to discuss the burning of the Holy
Quran in both Sweden and Denmark. This meeting is scheduled to take place on
Monday.
Additionally,
on the same day, Pakistan and Egypt continued to protest the numerous
sacrilegious acts that had occurred in Europe and caused great outrage and
condemnation throughout the Muslim world.
Outside of
its embassy in Copenhagen, Pakistan denounced the profanation of the Muslim
holy book as well as the disrespect of its national flag.
Several
Muslim nations, including Iraq, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and
Morocco, have expressed their anger at the happening, with Iraq calling for
the man's expulsion so that he might stand trial there.
