Horrific Ethnic Clashes in Manipur: Outrage Erupts as Video of Naked Kuki Women Paraded by Meitei Mob Surfaces

 The state of Manipur in northeastern India has been experiencing violent ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki tribal communities, leading to deadly violence and displacement of thousands of people. The clashes have resulted in at least 130 deaths and 60,000 displacements.

 

In this particular incident, which has sparked outrage across India, a video emerged showing two Kuki women being paraded naked by a mob of men from the Meitei group. The incident took place on May 4, but the video went viral on social media later, drawing widespread attention to the horrific act.

 

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) reported that the women were assaulted in a village in Kangpokpi district, alleging that they had been gang-raped as well. The video showed the women being dragged, groped and pushed into a field by the mob. The incident shocked the nation and led to calls for justice and swift action against the perpetrators.

 

The police have arrested one man in connection with the case of gang rape and murder, and they have promised to apprehend others involved. Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the situation, stating that the incident had "shamed India" and promising that the law would take its course with full force.

 

The incident highlights the use of sexual violence as a weapon in conflicts and raises concerns about the authorities' response and the safety of women in the region. Politicians from different parties have condemned the act and called for stringent action against the perpetrators to restore confidence and justice in Manipur, especially among the minority Kuki community.
